What is HDR?
HDR, High Dynamic Range is a process of squeezing more levels of detailed exposure latitude, into a photo or image than the medium is otherwise able to display.

HDR, High Dynamic Range is a process of squeezing more levels of detailed exposure latitude, into a photo or image than the medium is otherwise able to display. Exposure latitude is the extent to which a light-sensitive material can be over- or underexposed and still achieve an acceptable result. The human eye is capable of seeing detail in what is believed to be 14 "stops" of exposure range, while film / photo paper is considered to be capable of only 3 to 5 stops. An F-Stop is a measurement of light based on the hole (or aperture) in a camera lens.

Anyone familar with the 1930's and 40's photographer, Ansel Adams and his most famous Black and White works has already seen what increased dynamic range can result in. Ansel Adam's "Zone System" is to film, what HDR is to Digital Photography.
